Selecting Files To Rename
Your first task should be to select the directory containing the files you wish to rename. To do this select the drive the files exist on from the top left hand drive box. Once you have selected the appropriate drive, the directory listing below will update to show you all directories on that drive. Select the directory containing the files you wish to rename.
Now that you have selected the directory containing the files you wish to rename, you should see a list of these files to the right of the directory listing. Each of these files has a [] check box next to it. If you do not wish to rename a particular file, please uncheck this box.
This is the basics of how to select the files to rename. A+ File Renamer also includes several advanced features to help you in selecting only the files you desire easily.
Filters:
You can filter the files to be renamed based on either the file name, the extension or both. For example if I wished to only see MP3 files then I could enter MP3 into the type field and only MP3 files would be displayed for renaming. Like wise if I only wanted to rename files that began with DSC I could enter DSC* into the name like field and only files starting with DSC would be displayed. Once you have entered new filters into these fields, be sure to click the apply filters button.
Hidden & System Files:
Sometimes files on your system may be hidden from view or marked as system files (generally windows files). Although it IS NOT RECOMMENDED that you rename these types of files, selecting the show hidden or show system checkboxes will display these files for renaming. Please note, we ARE NOT responsible for any damage you cause doing this.
Selecting Or Unselecting All Files:
If you wish to unselect all the files in the file box so that they are not renamed, click the clear all files button. This can be useful if there are only a couple files you wish to rename in a large list.
