File Name Changes

Changes to the file name are the most common form of changes that you will make. There are several ways that you can manipulate the file name, below are descriptions of each option, from top to bottom on the screen shot.

Replace With:

This feature is fairly straight forward, this rule allows you to replace any string of characters with another string. For example you could tell it you want to Replace APPLES with ORANGES by placing APPLES in the first field and ORANGES in the second field. By default the software will replace all instances of APPLES with ORANGES in the file name. However you can check the FIRST ONLY checkbox to replace only the first instance of APPLES.

Insert Before Or After:

This feature allows you to insert a string of text before or after another string of text. For example if my file name was Mom&Dad and I wanted to change it to Mom&Brother&Dad then I could do so by entering Brother& in the first field, selecting after in the drop down, and then entering Mom& in the third field. By default this will insert Brother& after every instance of Mom& in the file name, however you can check the FIRST ONLY checkbox to only insert before or after the first instance.

Insert At The Start Or End Of The File Name:

This feature allows you to insert text at the start or end of the file name. For example if my file was "Picture001" and I selected to insert "My_" at the start of the file name, then my file name would become "My_Picture".

Remove From The Start Or End Of The File Name:

This feature allows you to remove a certain number of character from the start or end of the file name. For example if my file name was "12345678" and I choose to remove 4 characters from the end of the file name, I would be left with "1234" as my file name.

Clear Text Between

This feature allows me to remove text from the middle of a file name, for example if my file name was "My-Cool-Picture" then I could enter - into both fields and tell it to clear all text between two -'s resulting in "MyPicture". If I wanted to leave the search text "My--Picture" then I can check the checkbox called Leave Search Text

Set File Name To

This feature is generally used in combination with auto numbering and allows you to set the file name to the exact text you enter. If you enter "Picture" your files will now be called "Picture".

Add New Rule

You must always click the Add New Rule button to formally accept the rule you have created. Don't worry you can remove it later if you need to.
