Getting Started

Congradulations! Your about to experience a surge in web site traffic that you could have never imagined getting for so little money! This section will walk you through posting your first message.

Registration:

When you first load the application you will be asked to register. If you have purchased the application online your Serial Number will be e-mailed to you. If you have purchased the boxed version, your Serial Number will be inside your jewel case opposite your CD.

If you have a Serial Number, enter your First Name, Last Name, and Company Name, and serial number. REMEMBER HOW YOU ENTERED THESE, you will not be able to re-install the software if you make any changes to your registration. Click Register to register your copy.

If you don't have a serial number, simply click DONE to enter DEMO mode. This mode is slightly limited, and will place an advertisement at the bottom of your messages.

If you have forgotten your registration information, please contact support.

You should now be looking at the Tips & Tricks window. If you wish to, you may go through these now. Otherwise click DONE.

Create A Server:

To get started you will need to register your usenet server. If you don't have one, you can do a search online for USENET SERVER and you should find several. We recommend one that does not have logging, these servers are usually much more friendly towards advertisers.

Now lets click on the FILE menu and select MANAGE SERVERS. Enter a logical name for your server and the address to the server. If your server requires you to login you will need to enter a username and password. Unless you are an expert USENET poster, don't worry about the port or post for now. Click the add button, the application will now attempt to contact your server and download a list of newsgroups. If it's successful your server will be saved. If not you will receive a message telling you why.

Setup A Posting Group:

Now lets close this window, click the round green button in the top right corner. This will close the window, the purple button will minimize it. Go back to the FILE menu and select MANAGE GROUPS. A new window will appear. In the top left corner lets select your server from the drop down list. After you select a server you will have to wait a minute for the newsgroup listings to load. This should only take a second or two.

Now lets click the new button in the top right of the window. Give your new posting group a meaningful name. Now on the left you will see a list of newsgroups available on your server. If your looking for a specific keyword enter it in the quick search box. After a second or two your list will be reduced to just the groups matching what you have entered in the quick search box.

To add a group to your list of groups to post to, double click it. It will now appear in the list to your right. This a list of groups you have selected to post to. If your posting a test message we recommend alt.test, alt.alt.test, alt.testing, or alt.tester if your server has them available. These are groups specifically for posting test messages to. Don't expect anyone to read them. :)

Once you are happy with your list of groups to post to, click the SAVE button. This will save the changes to your list. Lets now click the dark green close button in the top right of the window.

Creating Your Message:

Your now ready to create your first message. To do this go to the MESSENGER menu, and select CREATE & SEND MESSAGES. To get started we need to select your server you wish to post to. This is located in the drop down list at the top left of the window. Select your server now. Once your server is selected lets select the newsgroup list to post to. This is the drop down list on the top right of the window.

Great! Now lets enter your sender name, sender address (your e-mail address), and the subject of your message. Next lets go to the body of the message, and typing in your message. Once your done lets click the POST NOW button. You will now see a window pop up saying it is sending the message.

Depending on the speed of your internet connection, your news server, and how big your message is, sending may only take a second, or it may take a few minutes. The sending message window will keep you advised to the status of your message posting.

Checking Your Post Logs:

Now lets click the LOG FILE menu, this will display a log file of your recent activity. You should see the top entry as MANUAL SEND, for details on this screen click the appropriate menu item to the left of this text.
